Continuing Education Approval

In California, "continuing education" contact hours is the term used. They are calculated as follows:

• Each contact hour is at least 50 minutes of instruction in an organized learning environment.

• Courses less than one hour (60 minutes) in duration will not be approved.

• Each hour of theory equals one continuing education contact hour.

• Each three hours of course-related clinical practice will be accepted as one continuing education contact hour.

• One continuing education unit (CEU) is equal to 10 continuing education contact hours.

• One academic quarter unit is equal to 10 continuing education contact hours.

• One academic semester unit is equal to 15 continuing education contact hours.
